The Oranga Kai facilitator works with local groups and agencies to develop and run Oranga Kai sessions that suit the needs of those taking part.
Sessions are based on suggestions from the group on what they would like to learn and try.
All sessions are free and the food is provided. The main goal is to increase participant’s skills in cooking healthy food on a budget and encouraging them to try new foods and ways of cooking.
All participants are encouraged to be ‘hands on’ in the kitchen to cook the food and participate in the gardening sessions.
Oranga Kai has a ‘train the trainer’ component where kaimahi are supported to deliver workshops in the community.
