An exciting opportunity has arisen for innovative clinicians to work within our newly established and growing primary mental health care model, Te Tumu Waiora, in Northland.  

We are looking for experienced clinicians to provide behavioural health services within a General Practice setting.  The position will work as an integrated member of the General Practice team and provide immediately accessible, evidence-based brief interventions to individuals and their families to assist in improving their emotional health, physical health and overall wellbeing.  You will also be working alongside a Health Coach to deliver evidence-based group programmes, provide consultation, education and advice to the members of the General Practice team and support local population health by developing intervention pathways based on clinic needs.  These roles are based on the Behavioural Health Consultancy (BHC) model, which has been piloted and developed for the New Zealand setting.  The new roles will be supported by specialist training, which has been specifically developed to support the Healthcare Teams working in the Te Tumu Waiora model.

This new primary mental health care model is part of a National Primary Mental Health collaborative with the Northland model being a collaborative between Mahitahi Hauora PHE and the Northland District Health Board.

We have two vacancies, one role is based in Kaikohe the other in Bay of Islands (BOI).  The position in BOI will work within three General Practices.

For these roles we are seeking someone who has:

  • A current New Zealand registration as a health professional in Psychology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or Social Work.
  • Professional experience in their registered field, minimum 3 years.
  • Clinical experience working in mental health and addiction environments (primary or secondary) providing evidence-based brief interventions such as ACT, FACT or CBT.
  • A current unencumbered full NZ driver’s licence
  • Excellent computer and literacy skills including MS Office Suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

You must have the right to work in NZ and/or have a current NZ work visa.

The successful applicant will be required to attend training for this role.
